I couldn't say I've been waiting for this to happen, however it's really no surprise. Google may be doing some (debatably) great things elsewhere, but they are - first and foremost - an advertising company. Everything else ties into or is funded by that.
Maybe Google can turn DoubleClick into a far less loathsome entity than it is now...
