It would depend on the platform... But if the platform supports it, 64 bit.
Why? Performance... Compatibility with newer applications... Futureproof... + many 32 bit applications will still run without the slightest issue. -
Time to take the plunge. XP x64 was more of an experiment by Microsoft than anything. Vista was/is better. Windows 7 "should" be mature enough for the risk. As long as the software is there. . . . .Comment

Its what i'd have thought also, its just do we need 64bit or not really....
For a gamers machine for example, there aren't that many 64bit games, even though more are on the way...

i voted 64 bit
i never game anymore, my 64 bit vista runs my finance software and all my investing research is done over the internet now so application compatability is not as important to me now.
vista 64 bit does run office 2007 pro with no problems and its' w.o.w architecture for 32 bit software seems stable. the windows live platform runs flawlesly so i am a happy camper. i did install all the above software in the win7 64 bit beta and it runs good with no problems so far...knock..knock!

64bit only, enough of the madness already.
And Gurm - absolutelly; the sooner everybody are on 64bit the better...the REAL downside is that there are now two parellel lines of every major OS...which are mostly compatible...but not quite.
Too bad MS didn't have the balls to make Vista 64bit only, and it's too late to do that with upcoming Vista SE. So it seems we'll have to wait until second half of the next decade to get rid of this mess...
Oh, and too bad Intel did have the balls to release new 32bit cpu IN LAST YEAR. And it seems they want to do it again, IN SECOND HALF OF THIS YEAR!Last edited by Nowhere; 30 January 2009, 18:41.

When I set up this computer I had it partitioned for a V64 and a XP32. Never ended up installing XP - I love V64. Voted Win7-64bit. I still use XP Pro x86. If I was going for a new OS (Win 7 for example) I definitely would buy a 64 bit version.
