Matrox now supporting AMD video accelleration(firegl)

Matrox is now on the path of using amd firegl for gpu accelleration,

Well I guess this is the end is in sight for matrox graphics, but I think matrox video/imaging is still got a future.

Somehow; I think that the years Matrox had more in the spotlight were a lucky coincidence: they've always catered towards niche markets...

Early on, think cga/vga/mga? days they WERE market/tech leaders and for good reason.

But they certainly have picked some good niches , the imaging/video stuff must be doing well. My understanding is a lot government and corporate cctv networks use matrox stuff and CCTV is not going away anytime soon.

Their multiscreen graphic card stuff was the best for a long time, but nvidia and ATI have really taken that market. ATI latest stuff(eyefinity) simply kicks ass on this front. I can't see matrox lasting in that particular niche.

What if.... Matrox made AMD-based cards for the masses and we could get this forum filled-up again?
