    Dilitante1 just beat me,
    Start-->run-->msconfig StartUp
You can choose to disable everything that will be started by WinMe. I turned them all off and it still booted up, so you can experiment with it without any harm..

Also you can try to type 'netstat -a' in a dosbox. So you can see your active TCP/IP connections.

I didn't tried it myself because I didn't had this problem. I run DuMeter so if I had it, I would notice..
    And I run 98SE again because I have a P3V4X with a slotconverter giving me registry-error's :-(

      Jorden,

There is an easy way to tell next time you install WinME. Go download the latest snifferPro software from Network Associates and start capturing packets for about ~10sec. or so. This should tell you exactly what is going on. If you have any questions, let me know.

An obvious question would be for a link, Dave

I guess I'll reinstall Win ME before this weekend even
With all the stuff above (and hopefully more to come) to test, my fingers are itching to put that CD in my Asus 50xMax

The only bummer is that my Sygate network software apparently isn't Win ME compatible, but I'll look through that again

        Jord.

I was curious about nedstat after erectus'
post and was playing around with it. Two things I'm not sure about; 0 Receive Errors and 2202 Send Errors, and 1117 Receive Unknown Protocols. Any clues as to what these mean?
          Anyone?

          Thanks,
          Mark F.

          PS. What is an NBSESSION?
          NetwareBios maybe?
          Not aware I was running NetBios, or NetBeui;
Will have to double chick if it's bound to the NIC!

Anything starting with NB is to do with NetBios or put another way Microsoft Networking. It is installed as part of Microsoft's TCP/IP stack.

Well, i turned on logging for my windows me machine (through ipchains, input and output) and all I can come up with is Win me trying to contact windowsupdate.com after booting...

EdSki, I offered Win ME the update page, but about when it was loaded, it said that the page was unavailable, and on a reload it said that it couldn't even find the page !!

Heck, this is a beta of the Win ME, so I'm not doing anything illegal, so I scratched off of my list the Windows Update Menace ( ) as the orchestrator. I don't think even WinUp would give a "site could not load" message, complete with DNS error, when it was already trying to reach out for there

Ehmzz weird...you should be redirected to the windows me update site (works for me)

I guess your best bet to find out what is going on is doing a netstat -a, like erectus said, when it happens again..At least you'll find where all that uploading is going.

In your first post you said
"I installed Windows ME 4.90.3000 today"
In the lastpost u said its a beta???
In my opinion 4.90.3000 is not a beta..
The one I installed was 4.90.3000 and it was the final edition. Official from MS.
                          Weird...

All I know is that my winMe didn't upload anything, at least i didn't notice..
And I ALWAYS check my DuMeter..
This also could have something to do with my WinMe having a static IP behind a Slackware-firewall... :-)

As far as I know 4.90.3000 is a beta, or so it says when you've installed it, and if you want to register the beta version of that Win ME.

Now I am confused.. but in another hour orso, I'll be doing the reinstall, after that I can tell you more

                              ...And now the conclusion...

Okay, I reinstalled Windows ME. Did everything exactly like I installed it the last time. In the end I got that (imo superfluous) Win ME startup Mediaplayer thingy, did a quick Alt+F4 to get rid of it, opened a DOS box, connected to the internet... and you feel it coming, right? Nothing started uploading!!!

Okay... so I went hunting for the Winmgmt thingy, but it's nowhere to be found in Win ME. Or I must've overlooked it.

So now everything is working, then? Errm, no... my network software still refuses to give the clients access to the internet. I did an uninstall and reinstall of the Sygate software, but that didn't help.

And all PCs see eachother, can be pinged as well. Just no internet connection for the client. I'll do a reinstall of the software on the client as well, but in the mean time, does anyone know if Win ME can be a server for a Win98 machine, without internet share connection?

                              Jord.

I think i read some where that versions of sygate above 563 support Windows me (not absolutely sure though)

About the weird uploading: Are u sure it wasn't some proggy you installed after the previous installation of winme? (Coz the uploading went away after a fresh install)

And you don't have to install internet connection sharing (if that is what you mean)

                                Grtz,
