PIII 600 core voltage

I recently upgraded my PIII450 to a PIII600.
Does the PIII600 use the same core voltage as the PIII450.
The reason I asked is because I have had no success overclocking the PIII600.
The PIII450 was running at 504Mhz no sweat.

The PIII450 is a Katmai core using 2.0v.
The PIII600 could be either Katmai or Coppermine core using 1.65v.
You'll have to give more info on your PIII.

Sorry about that.
The PIII600 is also a Katmai.
If I would up the FSB to only 103Mhz,I get a registry error in W98SE.
The PIII450 ran great at 112Mhz FSB.
I thought maybe the PIII600 had a little diff voltage and didn't like the higher FSB.

600 MHz Katmai is difficult to oc. Your result is not surprising. The 600 Katmai's stock voltage is 2.05 volts.

PIII 600 katmai are dogs to overclock. 600 Mhz is pretty much the limit of the katmai core. They just released it because AMD Athlon was out and crushing PIII in benchmarks, at lower clock speeds.

So don´t feel bad about not being able to oc it, it´s just the way that is.

I had a 600 a while ago. I could get 618 stable, and boot to desktop at 672, but couldnt do anything once I got there.

I always check the database at www.overclockers.com to see what other people are getting before buying a new CPU.

Pity, but did you notice the L2 latency is set to 1 rather than the 450s latencey of 7 (from memory).

That actually makes quite a difference.

I had a Katmai 500 which defaulted to a latency of 8. 3 or 4 got me the best results not 1????

BTW, anyone notice that the del key doesn't work in the textbox?

Sisyfos, you were probably getting errors, and since L2 cache is ECC, the error correction would have taken more time. If you could run with a latency of 1 without errors, it would be faster.

I love my freak katmai......a 450 doing 660 no problem.......it's a strange world.

My fastest latency up here is about 6.

Oh, that's at 2.3v with a GlobalWin VOS32 holding it at about 45C with a case temp of 23.

Is there a utility, and is it wise to adjust the L2 from 1 to say 7.
