Abit doesn't make a board that they don't have full confidence in. Asus will. Can you say i820 mobo recall?

Two of the smartest things that Abit did was: decided not to make a super7 mobo, and decided not to make a i820 based mobo.

Compton, no, I haven't seen an Abit VA6 in action. The Abit mobo's that I've worked with are the BX6r2, BH6, BP6, BM6, KA7, and KT7; all of these have done very well for me.

I just got my KT7 + t'bird 800, and I'm in the midst of reinstalling w95, etc. So far it is running like a champ, but it is way too early for me to give it a final thumbs up. I like to see it completely stable for several weeks before I give it that seal of approval.

I'm far from satisfied with the ABIT BE6 motherboard in my secondary machine, although most of my problems are because of the BX limitations.
The worst is the on-board HPT UDMA66 controller.
ABIT seems to be a cheap, low quality solution to me.

My other motherboard, made by Supermicro (with the i840 chipset) has never given me any problems and I'm very happy with it.

If I had to choose between ABIT and ASUS, there's no question I would go with ASUS. I did come across a faulty ASUS motherboard once but other than that they still fared a lot better than the overly tweaked unrealiable offerings ABIT has.

In fact I would have probably stayed with ASUS, if only they had made a motherboard with the i840.

Anyone know where to get the BX133 in the UK? I can't find it anywhere! Dabs.com did have it but they seem to have removed it.

            Thanks,

            Paul.
