new mobo advice

Hi guys,

It looks like my Mobo died a sudden death! (2 months out of warranty) I'm not really sure what happened but it doesn't post, I get no video, and nothin' but a continuous beeps that last for three seconds. I've tried swapping out memory, took the mobo outta the case (no shorts), my G400 works in another machine so I know its not that.

You guys have any other sugguestions? If not can you recommend a good mobo to match to a PIII 500.

I know a lot of you are gonna say "might as wellupgrade the mobo and processor now", but keep in mind its less than a week before Christmas and I've already blown all my cash on presents!!!

Oh!!! Your P3 is a slot1 version.Sorry!!!Anyway,buy a ABIT mobo because they are the best(before,I had 2 mobos on slot1:BF6 and BE6-2 and they were great).

Hmmm, is your P3 500 a socket or slot type cpu? If it's slot, then the BX133 is out of the question. Find an Abit BF6 or Asus P3 board.

Yes the processor is a Slot 1. So that does limit my choices. I definitely want to get Mobo with on-board ATA66 so I can finally make full of my hard drive. I never got around to picking up a Promise card.

Will I have to do anything with my HD to make work at ATA66 on new mobo? Or will it take of itself.

I've never replaced a MOBO before, so I may be back with more questions.

or if you want a new slot 1 m/board with an 815 chipset, you could consider
ABIT SH-6 815e SLOT ATA 100

I still thoroughly love my ol Abit BX6rev2. That is absolutely the best mobo I've ever had. It doesn't have udma66, though.

I would recommend to you:ABIT BE6-2(ATA66), ABIT BE6-2r2.0(ATA100) or even ABIT BF6(ATA33).Those are great mobos for everything,including overclocking.

And for your question about ATA66 onboard/add-on + HDD,you should not worry,it's like plug&play.My HighPoint370 onboard controller works well,but it's something strange in Windows98/ME:my hdd works better on the ATA33 mode than the ATA66 mode(THE DRIVERS ARE.....).

Thanks all for the advice,

I ordered the ABIT BE-6 II v. 2 this morning as well as taking advantage of the low RAM prices by picking up another 256MB.

I pulled out the invoice from when I purchased my PC last year, and almost choked when I saw that I paid $290 for 128MB of RAM! This mornings order was only $250 for the Mobo and twice as much RAM!!!!
