Whats a good audio-stereo equipment forum??

Hmm, perhaps I should start my own thread; don't want to intrude on ccoltas' thread.

Price should not be a concern here. My father says we have a budget of $20k for this I guess I'll check out the Yamahas, Onkyos and Denons as well.

I'd listen to KvH and Greebe. Just before I bought my house the wife and I spent a full day listening to B&W speakers. We ended up getting the DM605 S2s for the fronts, DM601s for the rear set and a CDM CSE for the center. I got the DM605s because they have powered subwoofers and we've been able to do without a seperate subwoofer so far.

I ended up with a Denon surround reciever after listening to both Yamaha and Denon. I prefered the warmer sound of the Denon and really liked the 5 channel stereo for music. Now I'm sort of looking at AMPs to give my system a bit more punch.

What do you guys think of the Outlaw AMP????

Only heard the RX-V1, Paul.. sounds really good. Heard parts of Gladiator at a customer's house on that system I recommended above.. pretty sweet.

LS, if you want to start spending more money, you might move up to the B&W Nautilus 802s ($8000) and HTM1 Center Speaker ($2000). When you do that, though, you might want to have seperate amps and preamps. For the money, the Sunfire set does pretty well, though this will put the system price over your $20,000 limit. If you dont have a real HDTV yet, I'd spend it there. Get a 73" Mitsubishi or one of several front projectors (assuming you can get the room DARK.) I had a guy buy the 73" with a Mitsubishi HDTV DSS receiver/dish and he loves it.

Forgive me Rags but I just picked up a Velodyne CT-120 subwoofer for my system.

Friggn A!!!!! I don't know how I survived this long without a Sub. Took a bit of tweaking to set it up for both music and DVD's.

For the price this model will Rock you outta your seat.

I've had a Velodyne ULD-15 Series II Sub for 13 years now ... peaks at 800 watts. My audio guy tweaked it out with the latest factory revs and then rewired the internals with Monster M1 pipe. This thing will knock you off your seat, and do it in a very sweet musical way. I remember once playing a LD movie in the front living room and going to the far back of the house (ranch style home) to use the head and the water in the bowl was waving like mad. Had to laugh!

Neat story about the ULD15, xortam. We had one for awhile as a floor model in our store. Very nice woofer, with the servo and all. Awesome toy. We got a test CD once, with tones down to 10 hz or so. Tried 17 hz on the ULD and nothing seemed to be happening.. but then I walked across the room, and BAM! found the sweet spot of the wave and it smacked me in the stomach! You can't really hear that, just felt it! Very scary.

Yep, the Velodyne has scared me more than once.

I have her sitting up on what I call her high heels ... those very sharp inverted aluminum cones; grabs through the carpeting into the floor boards for firm contact. I had to add Sorbathane pads under my laser disk player or the beam would skip when things got a bit intense. I can still get the player to skip on rare occasion, but the wife never lets me turn the system up much.

What's the advantage to using solid core vs braided copper cable for the Subs?????

I also noticed that the Velodyne's "auto on" function doesn't work very well at low levels with just a single RCA Sub cable connected to the Left input on the sub. I'm going to have to get a another cable tonight.

Well, there are lots of theories out there about cables, Paul, which is why there are so many different ones. The two companies I have come to respect most for cables are Tributaries and Audioquest. We use Tributaries all the time, but Audioquest is a bit on the higher end, pricier side. Tributaries has gotten consistently excellent reviews when compared to other cables in their price range, most notably trouncing Monster Cable. I'd probably go with their delta series audio cables if you want a good audio interconnect without spending a lot of money. I would try not to use speaker wire for a subwoofer in any case, particularly for the Velodynes.

Haven't had much experience with B&K, LS. Don't really know how they sound. If you can find a dealer there, let us all know what you think! I wouldn't buy one without listening to the top offerings from Yamaha, Denon, and Onkyo Integra though.
