Fastest browser I've ever seen.

I used netscape until the download hit over 20MB...

Now I use IE on my good computer (that's what Nikki knows.. so that's what I have)

On my "Internet Router/Nikki is on my good computer" computer I use Opera as the computer is only a P133 running G@H with 48MB ram... I find Opera to Open Faster, and its more manageable with the click navigation as I don't have a cool mouse for it... just a plain two button mouse. (The good computer has the MS Trackball Optical with 4 buttons and a scroll wheel)

Sometimes I use IE though... I haven't tried Mozilla or Netscape past version 4.7...

To me its personal preference... but for the majority of users its easiest to click on the Blue E on the desktop then it is to find, download, install, setup...

That is one reason why I can understand its widespread adoption.

To me it matters little unless its for a special reason.

Now... ask Linux Guys what browser they use and I am sure IE isn't one of the top ones.

PS... for linux.. I have used Lynx and Netscape (Slackware 7)

Lynx is cool... Netscape Kinda Buggy... but I used Netscape in X-Windows because it was there... Kinda Like IE in windows.

You can rant all you want about -features vs. performance vs. size vs. requirements- but I think it comes down to availability.

95% of the 1500-2000 people that work at the Nuclear Plant around the corner use IE.. why... because its on their desktop... if you replaced it with Netscape they would use that instead...

I am thinking of writing a web browser.. it will be the fastest of them all because it will retrieve the page.. put it on your hard drive in an HTML directory.. but you can't see it... you will have to use a text editor to view the source code to get your information...

As far as I know, preloaded libraries even though they certainly affect loading speed, does not affect the mem usage meter.

Interface elements -- of course it's much faster and more efficient for any application to use the common controls provided by the operating system. Nothing is stopping anyone to reuse them.
Microsoft, Windows being their own operating system, are obviously in a slight advantage in that they can simply update the common controls if one of their apps require some new functionality. I would say that's perfectly normal and everyone benefits from the updates later on.

Any sensible GUI application for any given OS should use the shared interface elemets.

The Mozilla guys to ease porting opted for a less than ideal solution which makes it inconvenient for any of the platforms they run on.

What Linux users like? KDE users Konqueror, Gnome users Galeon, as it has already been mentioned here before. And Lynx of course. (Which I use in Windows as well sometimes.)

fds, if you want an embeded browser next to IE, try Moz0.9.1.-embeded for a change

On my box Mozilla 0.8.1 is way faster than IE that comes with W2K!

And when i get 0.9.1 down it will be like Wily Coyote and the Road Runner

Besides, Have any one ever heard that Mozilla has caused so much problems that it is necesary to format and reinstall?

Well, test this;

I have both Moz 0.8.1 and 0.9.1 installed in different directorys so i can go back if the newer is more buggy than the older.

If ypu uppdate from one version of Ie to another it's a lot trickier to go back.

It often requires the use of "IEradicator" or a clean reinstall of windows...

No such problems with Mozilla!

I would say there are some serious problems with it if you have to go back to a previous version.

What I think is funny is that Jorden complains about his internet connection, but yet has no problem with downloading Mozilla about once a month....At least with MS, all you have to do is download the tiny hot fixes

What I meant was that if you uppgrade IE from one version to another your stuck because its integrated with windows and won't uninstall.

While Mozilla might not be the best browser for all in the world your not stuck with it as you are with IE!

You can uninstall IE back to previous versions... just don't expect funtionallity to be back to what it was.

I still haven't bothered to see why Outlook Express disappeared when I told it to roll it back from Version 6 to 5.5

I never uninstall my browser and I only update it once or twice a year. What's the problem?!
