G400 problems

I've got a G400, with a K6 II 300 and an Asus P5a and my video card don't want to go up 640 480 with 16 colors....there is an preference error message at windows boot. I searched but I didnt't find where is the problem. If somebody can help me, thanks a lot.

Have you updated your motherboard's bios ? P5A doesn't work with any newer graphics cards with bios version 1004 or older.
