G400 & Gigabyte GA-5AA

I purchased a G400 16Mb SH and tried to install on my new Gigabyte GA-5AA motherboard, but can't get any action. Using a fresh install of WIN98, I get as far as booting in with VGA then load the G400 drivers and the screen fills with a coloured pattern and the whole thing locks up. I tried various aperture sizes (16, 32 & 64) but to no avail. I installed this m/b on a friend's PC and it worked fine with a voodoo 3. Any suggestions ?

GA-5AA & AMD K6-2 400, 32Mb (I know - more coming), G400 16Mb SH.
