full screen DOS app refreshrate??

How do I copy Windows refreshrates to a fullscreen DOS app??.
Any driver newer than the 5.20's won't let me set the proper refreshrate (defaults to 60Hz) for 1024x768 VESA.
I've tried Vbext.exe, VBETSR and VBSETUP
supplied with the BIOS 1.4.

The current VESA TSR is supposed to use the parameters fetched via DDC, so it doesn't need to support other methods. The old stuff could use MGA.MON file from old PDesks.
