I'm currenty using g400 with max r3 thru d3d drivers. It works just like a dream -it's really fast. Opengl drivers worked with no problems, but they were bit slower and gave much better image quality ofcourse.

Overall g400 performs under max r3 great, but in max r2 there were some problems with d3d display drivers because the grids on viewports didn't draw correctly and left strange traces on the screen when adjusting camera angles an so on. Grids were also displayed with rainbow-like-colors.

Since you use D3D you must be using maxr3 in 9x. I must say: the G400 performes like CRAP in NT (openGL of course). Software-Rendering /k7-500) is a lot faster. Since i dont want to stick to 9x i must say: go matrox go and do sth. !

I had problems with early G400 Turbo GL drivers in Win98 SE/MAX R2 and never tried them again. Early Turbo GL drivers caused crashes when resetting and gave the rainbow problems mentioned previous to my post. No trouble with packaged GL drivers.

Well of course the TurboGL didn't work for MAX, since it's for GAMING ONLY.

          Sheesh.

Well Gurm, lets see if I can clear this up for you since you might not understand.

If a person had only one op system, like Win98, and installed the Turbo GL drivers for games, it would affect everthing that ran on them, would it not? So lets say they ran MAX and found out the Turbo drivers caused a problem. Then someone posts a question about the G400 with Studio MAX and the person that had this problem answers the post, thinking it might help. Or should I have included all details so you would not jump to incorrect assumptions about why they were installed in the first place?

            Sheesh.
            -----------------------------------------
OK, I am reminded it was the beta ICD driver that I had problems with, not the Turbo GL drivers. Life is good with the Turbo GL now.

No, actually. Thee TurboGL file is an MCD, and is only installed in the directories of programs that use it. If it's not there, the programs utilize the full ICD.

The TurboGL is, and always has been, an MCD that is copied into only supported games' directories. The normal ICD was always left alone. I think you are confusing the TurboGL with the Beta ICD that Matrox released a while back, it caused problems in 3D Apps, since it was optimized for games.

Thanks Rags, for clearing that up. I had forgotten it was a beta.

                    Hi SCOMP,

There has never been any danger in installing the turboGL, even the very first ones left everything else alone, the only thing the TurboGL does is scan your hard drive for supported games, then install the TurboGL driver into the supported games that you choose, the normal ICD never gets touched, and can always be used if so desired, and that's the way it's always been.
