    G400 settings for Compaq 171FS

I just picked up a nice thought slightly old Compaq 171FS monitor. My question: how likely am I to damage the monitor if I run it at 75MHz refresh in 1024x768 rather than the prescribed 72MHz?

(Prescribed by the Matrox Monitor Customizations list, that is. My card is a G400 [non-Max] 32Mb model.)

I tried to get an answer from Compaq but failed. I'm hoping someone out there can answer. There's a perceptible difference in image stability at 75MHz as compared to 72MHz.

    Thanks.

Common sense says that if you run a part beyond its specs, you may damage it.
But, relativly recent monitors have a built in protection system that simply doesn´t display a signal out of range. So if it actually displays a picture at that refresh rate, it should be fine.

Thanks, Nuno. That's reassuring. I'm wondering, though, if this monitor is that up-to-date. I think the 171FS was introduced five or six years ago.
