The majority of the G400s will live at 89 MHz using AGP 1x, sometimes 2x.

AGP1x @ 89MHz is about 33% faster than spec and a.f.a.i.k. run ALL newer G400s (i.e. AGP4x transfer capable) happily and flawless in AGP2x DiME @ 89MHz - som eeven at 93MHz.

Btw, AGP1x DiME is often faster than AGP2x DMA.
Did you know that already the G200 supported AGP DiME ?

Besides a few artificial benchmarks you won't notice any difference in real world applications anyway.

My early Max is running on a 93mz AGP.
I did't have to do anything to get it to work.
It does run at 1x, but I think the phantom nature of 2x gains have been pretty well documented.

Hi Surfwienix,

DiME = Direct Memory Execution
DMA = Direct Me Access

The difference is that DiME is capable of actually using the AGP memory for directly using it, where DMA has to transfer it first to its local (onboard) RAM.

For example textures can be mapped directly from the AGP (system) memory onto the 3D objects in DiME mode, but in DMA it has to be transfered to its onboard memory and then can be mapped onto the objects.

Hi Jamey,

I don't know whether it is possible to set a G400 to DMA mode ...

Usually if it fails to reach stable AGP4x DiME, it falls back to AGP2x DiME and if that also fails the internal tests, it will be set automatically to AGP1x DiME, which is still somewhat faster than AGP2x DMA.
