It's ok, everything is finally fixed now.

I pulled the card, popped in an ATI and booted Windows.

After some flicking about, the ATI worked perfectly.

I then removed it and put the G400 back in.

I could then install the 5.14 drivers without problem.

Thanks for all the suggestions, but it really is fixed properly now!
