sound and video does not get synced!!

When i play MPEG clips and DVDs my computer does not sync the sound. does anyone have the solution to this problem??
i have a PIII 500, ABIT BE6 MoBo and a Matrox G400 MAX.

You didn't say, which player and which soundcard you use.
I had this problem when watching DVD.
I used 48khz for sound output which my
sound card could't handle. And the conversion to 44.1 khz caused the sound to drift away. After using 44.1khz as output rate, everything was in sync.

sorry about my info not being complete. I have a SB LIVE soundcard. it doesn't matter what player i'm using. been trying windows media player and powerDVD and a few more. since the live card can handle 48khz this should not be the problem should it??
