G400 Max...AGP 2x and 4x ?

Are there two different versions? One which is AGP 2x and another that is AGP 4x? If so, how does one tell the difference?

Yes, there were G400 Max's that were AGP 2X, the 4X versions can be identified by the part number, 4X will have a "4A" in the part number.

Wait a minute Rags... You mean that my G400max DOESN'T support AGP4x?
I was one of the first lucky people in The Netherlands to get my hands on a max-version, the partnumber on the sticker on the side of the box says: 79075010671
Other texts on the box say that it's compatible with AGP4x and 2x-systems.

I recently bought a new mobo/CPU/mem-combo (Abit KT7/AMD t-bird800/265MB PC133), and the KT7 supprts AGP4x.
As soon as I slapped my G400 in, I changed the AGP BIOS-setting to 4x. Everything runs fine though, but I just want to make sure if my G400 supports AGP4x or not. Apparently it does, but the P/N says otherwise, according to you.

Gues I'm talking in circles now... sorry, didn't get much sleep this weekend and PUI.

The early G400s are compatible with 4x AGP, but they don't exploit the higher speeds (they run at a max of 2x). Some other AGP graphics cards couldn't even run at all in the 4x slots. As Rags said, you need to see the "4A" designation in your part number to determine if you have a 4x exploitive board. Your part number is probably G4+MMDHA32GR.

Actually, not the serial number but rather the part number, it's stickered on the card itself.

Can you see me saying that I won't tell it because it's better that you wouldn't know? Exactly, there is nothing wrong with finding out what your card is capable of...

The purpose of my post was to prevent reaction like 'Oh my god! My G400 doesn't support 4x AGP while it says so on the box. I'm going to ask a RMA for it!!!!', which I've seen far to often unfortunately.

Point well taken...My main thrust for asking was that I have two PCs, one of which supports AGP 4x and the other only AGP 2x. It's not a big deal to me but I wasn't sure how to tell the difference ...e.g. the the 4A designation. Now I do...
