refresh rates

Im using matrox g400 and my screen is really dark, ive tried messing about with refresh rates and have newest drivers but games are almost impossible to play. I think it might be the model of my monitor its a ctx pl7 17".
Any ideas, ive been trying for weeks.

Is your windows desktop dark as well? If it is, then you need to use the controls built into the monitor to brighten it up.

my desktop is dark although i can change that by manually changing the refresh rates its when i play games i have major problems

Well, you need to let us know what OS you are using, and some more specific details of your system, along with what games are dark, and if there are any that aren't dark.

no games have worked so far including hidden and dangerous, shogun and kingpin
