G450, ViewSonic PF790, and degauss with every restart

Sounds to me like it has something to do with suspend/hibernation features of WinME. I haven't used ME (and don't want to) but somebody here can help you make sure your drivers are up to snuff to support these ME features.

The absence of "clicks" during resolution/refresh changes is one thing I really like about this monitor, although it is certainly unusual (since you and others *do* get them). Even when the PF790 is connected to another computer with an NVIDIA TNT (or GeForce2 MX) card, there are no clicking sounds during resolution/refresh rate changes. Also when connected to those NVIDA cards, the monitor does not get powered off and on during computer restarts, and so it doesn't get degaussed either.

I'll just write this off as something that is perhaps idiosyncratic to my setup.

There is a post on Matrox's site about this, the fix is to adjust DPMS settings in your system bios.. see:

Thanks, Frank....As it turns out, after reading xortam's post, I decided I'd check out the DPMS settings in the BIOS (because the post made that option occur to me). And now, with your link, I know all this hasn't been my imagination.

I'll make a change or two in the BIOS and see how things go.

I'm glad my comment got you thinking in the right direction (assuming the DPMS setting fixed your problem). I had the right idea about energy saving but forgot your problem was on restart. I would guess that you didn't see this problem on your other video cards because they didn't support DPMS ... is that right?
