    New Bois?

    Check out

It claims there is a new bios dated June 11, 2001 (today) size 1.88 MB

But the contained files are dated 4/19/01

    Any ideas anyone?

When a new BIOS is built, it is not released the same day. It first has to go through testing, qc, etc, etc before it gets released publicly.
Anytime you see "new" drivers or BIOS releases, they are many weeks old. The date you see on the web page is the date the package was zipped up and posted. The date you see on the files contained in the zip is the date it was actually built.

But I upgraded to this bios several weeks ago (back in May I believe). Are there new changes to the bios? If so, why are the dates so old and why did the version not change?

I wonder too. I am still using firmware 004. Do I need to upgrade?

We will have to wait for the release notes.

I've just flashed the Bios as the G400 was showing signs again of devoloping a corrupt bios.

What symptoms were you saying as BIOS corruption?

Having a "dos-box" display nothing but a blank screen when switched to full-screen is one indicator I noticed when my G400 MAX's bios got messed up. Thankfully it hasn't happened for a while, I think it may have been a side effect of running the computer at a 83.3~ MHz FSB (41.3~ PCI, 83.3~ AGPx2) before I figured out how to trick this mobo into running at 100 MHz with my CPU.

You know what. I have this problem once in a while in my Windows 98. If I go fullscreen with DOS box or even exit Windows, my monitor tells me "Scan mismatched" or something (forgot the exact words). It was basically, the frequency/refresh wasn't correct. I have an IBM P72 6556 monitor (17").

Is this a known problem and related to the corrupted BIOS? I am using firmware 004. How about you?

Losing full screen DOS and BIOS POST displays is a classic sign of a failing BIOS on Gxx0 cards. It's always a good idea to keep an emergency BIOS disk handy.

Right now according to PDesk I've got 2.1-35 flashed on the card, I don't know what version I had on it back then. That's also the same version that the new BIOS release from Matrox includes for the G400 MAX, so perhaps the new release is for a different card or something.
