I've been using a KyroII (Herc Prophet 4500) "loaner" for the last few weeks. My first impressions were that it wasn't as crisp an image as my Max. You get used to it over time but I would prefer getting my Max to run with the Gigger. I only borrowed the card to test out my Gigger hanging problem, which it did solve ... well it has hung twice over that time. I haven't gamed much with it except currently playing Myst III which came with the card. Q3A always hung on launch. I'll be returning it soon anyway so I'm not too worried.

A couple of my friends have Kyro2s. They looked pretty comparable to the G400 at 1024x768 on their monitors (Sony 17" somthing-or-other and a KDS AV17tf). I never saw them at any better res.

I run at 10x7x32 on a 17". The Herc KyroII image just appears a bit grainy compared to the Max as well as a bit dimmer. I boosted the Gamma correction a bit but I liked that image even less. I've been running with a Max for the last two years so I noticed the difference right off. You probably wouldn't notice the difference if you weren't accustomed to that particular monitor/graphics card/cable combo.

Matrox got us spoiled all right. I could buy a G-fart II MX400 64Mb NOW (they´re very cheap), but NOOO. I´m sticking with that beautiful crispness and color on my Sony Trinitron monitor.
Waiting for a Matrox gaming card to come out. If it doesn´t, I´ll go for an ATI, in a couple of months time.

I put an MX400 in a system I built just for playing games. The colors are weak and the quality much worse. It's almost annoying to play games on. It scrambles letters frequently too. If it wasn't for the speed I definitly would chuck it. I may get an ATI for it instead.

I just put my Max back in after returning the Herc this afternoon. Glad to have the rich colors back. I just updated to the latest BIOS to see if that helps but I expect to see it hang again soon.

Picked up a cheap cheap ($90 retail) Radeon 64MB SDR. Seems ok so far - much crisper than the Kyro2. Why can't someone make a good video card? (Rhetorical question - don't bother answering!)

My Max got well hung last night , as expected, on the torturous "Greebe" avatar. I don't know if I want to be much more patient waiting for Matrox to get their act together. I'm really starting to think I'll have to pick up something else soon, probably a Radeon. I need to have DH for DVD watching on TV and I need stability under W2K and image quality is of utmost importance. I hope the W2K Radeon drivers have gotten to the point where I wouldn't run into many problems. The 8500DV looks intriguing but that could be quite a while before the drivers prove themselves.

I'm running a Radeon 64DDR now on WindowsXP and haven't had many problems at all. Though call me crazy, but I think that my marvel G400 'loaded' faster than my Radeon. What I mean by this is that when I reset my computer, or I'm booting into linux, it takes longer for the screen to come up. I have no idea what is causing this, but I noticed it the instance I put in the new card. The other thing I noticed, which goes without saying, is that the display is not as crisp. I keep my resolution in 1600x1200x32bit and the text looks a little blurred. Supposedly the 8500 is better. I'll get one of those (unless Matrox comes out with something equally badass) as soon as I upgrade more internal things (such as motherboard and processor) Probably sometime after the end of the year. I'll have to see the performance on one of those new AMD XP processors alongside the 8500 (drool) Though I am thinking that soon I'd like to just buy into getting an AMD Hammer (64bit? It's about TIME!!!) Well, that's neither here nor there. Laters.
