How does the IQ of the G400MAX compare to that of the G550? Does the G400MAX have all of the 2D features of the G550? Which has better EMBM?

G400Max is faster, has better EMBM than G550. I think the only thing the G550 has better is higher resolution/refresh rates on second head, and it has HeadCasting, which is a pretty pointless feature.
Ive also heard that the G400 has better TV out than the G550, but not sure about that.
I would say if you could still get a G400 MAX, you would be getting a better card than the G550, specially if it costs less.

My G400 max doesn't have an adapter for DVI, but I am almost 100% positive that it'll run a DVI on the primary head. I assume you meant "SHIP" with a DVI, but you know what assuming does .....

Yep, the G400 max could display to one digital flat panel and one analog RGB or one digital flat panel and one analog flat panel or two analog flat panels. See for yourself:
