G400 Max Question

I have an opportunity to get back my old G400 Max (it's installed in a system I gave my sister in law and am going up to network all of their 'puters together).

Was the AGP bus on the G400 Max 4x or 2x? I have a newer system and am thinking about switching it in if it's 4x

Why? 2x, 4x, doesn't mean a difference with any card.

There where 2x and 4x versions. Either will work in a 2x,4x, or 8x mobo. If you can get the part# off the card, you can tell which version it is.

But as Wombat said, there is no real performance difference between 2x and 4x on any card.

4x agp port = 1.5v

where's the confusion?

anyway, if ppl say the g400max will work in any agp port ie. 2x, 4x, 8x, then be it. just sounding out.

you're confusing speed and voltage standards, because cards which run at 2x AGP aperture speed, might just as well work in a 1.5v AGP slot.

ok. what i was trying to do was just to suggest that big dog's g400max *may* not be able to work in some newer boards.

and in those cases it still *may* work if you're willing to do a very simple solder job

i used a 2xAGP G400 max in my asus p4b 845, which is capable of 4xagp, worked fine

hi there, i have one of the early G400Max cards which is only capable of AGP 2x transfers, will it work in e.g. a nforce 2 board (epox 8RDA+) which is only capable of AGP 8x and 4x without blowing up any voltage regulators ?

not all 2x can work at 4x.
you can search the Golden finger of G400,in the back of card,the lastest pin !if the pin is hanging ,now the card is 2X.if the pin connect with G400 chip ,now is a 4X
