Probably need some solder flux to get it to stick.

oh well managed to get my hands on another g400 with '4A' in the serial, so it shouldn't need any modding hopefully.

ok installed my new 32mb g400. It has a large heatsink on it but no fan. I am slightly concerned about it as after about 10mins of it being in i touched the heatsink and its too hot to hold the back of my hand on it.

DOes it need a fan??? (bear in mind i'm using a shuttle, albeit with the case open)

99.9% of all electronics grade wire solder has flux in it. Flux doesn't make it stick, it's only there to flush away oxides (read:does not clean) and more so to reduce the surface tension of the metals so they will flow freely
