New Linux drivers for Parhelia, P & QID from Matrox & Xi Graphics!!!

Xi Graphics & Matrox prepared new drivers for Parhelia, P-Series cards & QID.

New drivers support many features in Linux & Solaris envoroment like :
DualHead®, TripleHead™, quad-display, TV output, Clone, Multi-Display Zoom, OpenGL® acceleration, and multi-card configurations.

Ok, so instead of following the Gxx trend of having a free open sourced driver, Matrox (I'm trying REAL hard not to swear here) basically shoved a cactus up our arses! And now not only is their driver closed source for the Parhelia, but now they pull this bullshit and announce (not even released, just announced... a YEAR after their last horrible attempt) that they have a COMMERCIAL NON-FREE driver! For a $400 video card?

Well, besides the G400 that I hopefully will get from eBay, I am no longer going to buy any Matrox products. Bastards.

There is some better information on it, straight from Xi Graphics. Unlike Matrox's website, they actually say it's out (Summit Release 2.4).

I couldn't find a price for it anywhere on xig.com, though it does say that you'll have to get the Workstation Platinum for any hardware 3d acceleration. And I looked at some of the prices for the other video cards (apparently you pay depending on what freaking card you have?) And they were $219 and $249!

I'm SO glad I finally decided to just get an nVidia card. The 2D sucks, but at least I can get 3D to work without all the hassles!

They were only good in Linux because they released the G200 specs. The community then wrote the drivers for them. They leveraged the G200 drivers into G400 drivers. They clearly didn't understand what they were doing, because last time I checked they still had these drivers under a EULA, which they have been warned is illegal, because the G200 drivers are GPL.

They totally screwed the OS community during the Gx50 days and later.

Both Haig and Ben are great Tech support guys. I think nVidia would do well to hire them for their own forums. Since most of the people in there aren't quite so bright.... But then again, I don't think nVidia has a open Tech Support forum like Matrox does. That's the best thing about Matrox now.
