    win2k - gaming ?

    Somebody?

I am about to install win2k but want to know if it is possible to game in it. Some friend told me that it sucked at games...is that true?

Can I run for example halflife and quake3 and getting the same fps that in win98SE ?

I got the matrox g400 max.

    Thanx for helping!

I have a similar system to yours, and dual-boot win2k/win98 on separate HDD's. I play HL/TFC and Q3A just fine, performance is not quite where Win98 is, and there are visual irregularities occasionally, but overall it's not too bad.

      I have a G400 32MB DH, I can easily play Q2, Q3, Half-life & UT. But i get 5-10 less FPS when i run benchmarks (timedemos) in Q2 + Q3.
I dont mind that performance loss (it doesn´t matter much if its 70 or 60 FPS *hehe*) Because Win2K is SO much more stable than Win98. Of course there´s errors in Win2K (what did you expect its from MS) but the stability is super.

With current drivers, performance is decent. Not good (not even comparable to win98 turboGL). Q3 perform better, close to win98 ICD levels. Half-life performs ok, but it will default the refresh rate to 60Hz no matter what you so. Q3 has a console command to set the refresh rate, not so in Q2 engine games.
