I have a 256 MB system. My current settings are:
      Code:
      com_soundMegs "8"
      com_hunkMegs "128"
      com_zoneMegs "16"
The site still doesn't explain what com_zoneMegs does. I'll try bumping up com_zoneMegs to perhaps 32 and see if it has any effect. I just tried bumping up my com_hunkMegs from 128 to 172 and it actually lowered my frame rate by 0.2 fps. I have sound disabled so I doubt tweaking com_soundMegs will do anything but I'll bump it to 32 for gaming. New setting:
      Code:
      com_soundMegs "32"
      com_hunkMegs "128"
      com_zoneMegs "32"
Still doesn't explain my CPU upgrade dissapointment.

did you try to desactived some option in the Q3config.cfg like cg_gibs 0 or cg_shadow 0 ? (look in the tweaking section of the link above)

About your upgrade. I have a 700 MHz 7*100, when i play i o/c to 933 7*133 (CAS2) and I get a 5% boost . In fact the G400 is the component to change today. You know what that mean. Come on Matrox, HELP !!! jsute a little new card

But your upgrade help a lot when you play with a lot of bots, bacause the IA need only the power of the processor.

I reinstalled Q3A and ran some more benchmarks to compare with my older tests. Now I see some significant improvements over the P!!!/450. I'll quantify the results tomorrow. I should have run the 1.27 demo at 800x600 while I still had the P!!!/450 installed but I only tested at 1024 and 1280. Still curious to me that I got the exact same results at those higher resolutions. This CPU upgrade has really shown how the Max starts choking even at 1024. Guess I can now join the legions looking for the next great video card.

at 1024 and up in q3a, the performance is 99% limited to the G400, not to the CPU.

No help? I found a source for 1.27 demos (.dm_48 files) but they're all entire matches, too long for benchmarking. Doesn't anyone use standard demo files to compare benchmarking with the new patches? I guess I'll have to record my own short demo.
