Anyone using cmd-line version 2.4 ?

I just downloaded the 2.4 cmd-version for win 9x / NT last night.

I'm running units at 7 hours instead of 8

What else do you do with your PC, CHHAS? I thought a PC at idle using the cmd version would run faster even?

Nothing basicly.

I turn off SETI when gaming, so the only things having to compete for CPU time is my browser and a few small progs.

The 7 hours was done when I was at work, so nothing ran besides SETI (ok, my antivirus and other small resident progs did, but I didn't use the machine).

I've thought about using a RAMdisk, but with my luck (and Win 98's great stability) my machine will prolly crash, dumping my WU when I'm about 95% done

I doubt the RAMdisk will help and is a bugger to set up. Maybe a serious SETIer knows better but that's what I think!

Yeah, the ramdisk would be pretty useless. Seti only writes very small amounts of data every few seconds, so it would all be going through the HD cache anyway. You wouldn't see a difference at all.

Thanks Ees (aka Martin) for the info. One question though, you seem to be online at MURC all the time, at least whenever I’m on. My time online is what one would call 'erratic' at best. It could be my imagination or is you sleep wake cycle just as messed up as mine?

Oh yeah, since you seem to the man most responsible and knowledgable on the 'seti' theme, I'm running 24i386-winnt-cmdline version of seti & I was thinking about getting a cache program. Can you do it with this version, is it recommended & which is a good program to use?

it works with 2.4 if you change the cmd after it has instaled, it also works with setiwatch

Things have improved alot since I switched to the nt commandline version (someone from MURC showed me the light once I checked how long my avg. WU was taking with the screensaver version. In a word it sucked compared to a similar systems). It seems I'm spending lot of time trying to tweak seti crunching now days. I have encountered one problem though, recently I'm having trouble sending my completed WU back to seti. It says something like ‘the sever is down’ or there is ‘no such site’ and that it'll try again in an hour. Are any of you encountering similar problems lately or is it something at my end that’s not up to scratch? Any comments?

I noticed that the time and date were incorrect on my pc (i had to put it forward) yesterday while i was running 24i386-winnt-cmdline + SetiSpy. After the change i opened setispy to check my progress and i was a little shocked. My avg. % completed every hour was at 1.87 where it normally around 14-15%. Also my estimated time of arrival was way off, something like 60 hours. I thought this was a sider effect of changing the time and it wouldn't effect my team stats. Well it did.
Yesterday i had completed WU #40 (checked at seti team stat page) and my total cpu time was 481 hours. Now i checked back this afternoon and i'd completed 42 WU except this time it said 545 hours. That a difference of 64 hours. Thats 2 2/3 days since yesterday! Anyone got any ideas? I wouldn't think winnt-cmdline would be susceptible to a change in time in windows.
Its only a quirk but my stats are a bit screwed. My avg. cpu time per wu is way up and i have these extra hours added to my total cpu time. Is it possible to fix this at all or do i have to just cop it and call it a day?
