Saw this mentioned on the anandtech forums: Folding@home.
It sounds like the newest trend in origami, but it's actually quite nice. It uses distributed computing to research protein folding (a subject in molecular biophysics). You can download the source code or a Linux binary.
It's not a real contender to SETI though: no stats
