No BOINC for me anymore...

The software won't start anymore. Already uninstalled and reinstalled it, rebooted, nothing helped. It starts and immediately closes (I can just barely see the icon flashing up in the systray).

I'm wondering if it's worth the hassle, especially seeing as it'll take 1200+ hours for one whatever to finish on my computer and the computer's not on at night etc.

AZ, it might take your PC 1200 hrs to run a model, but it'll report trickles and get credits every 16hrs or so.

This may all seem like long run times, but the data will be collected for a long time. Analysis of the results is expected to run well over 5, even upto 10 years. They can wait a little for your results.

So, is there anything more you can say about what is going on?

Weird that you are having so much issues with it... (my other computer also isn't on at night)

If nothing else helps, uninstall BOINC, delete BOINC-directory & re-install...

Did that, it runs again now. But it did that the first time around, too - until the first reboot.

It's possible BOINC wasn't shut down properly then you re-booted, so next time shut down BOINC before shutting down windows...

No, you're correct, I'm running XP. It's just that I've had no major problems yet, so I don't even know how this system restore thingy is supposed to work, or where to find it

event log:
control panel (classic view), administrative tools, event viewer

There are 3 logs, "system" is where the OS errors/warnings appear, "application" is where some applications write their log.
(quite useful in locating problems)

System restore is something different (acts like Norton Cleansweep, only better). It allows you to revert back to a configuration prior to e.g. a software installation.
