lots of people upgraded from the g200 to the g400 despite the lack of resolution of the well-known g200 problems. [Emphasis mine.]

Where has Tony been for the last 5 driver revisions, which have steadily improved my G200's stability and image quality, to the extent that I was planning NOT to upgrade to the G400, and wait for the "G600"???

I just don't know what these users expect... I keep asking, but you friendlies won't spill, so this is what I've worked out myself...[list=1][*]The G400 is supposed to work flawlessly (at 4X, thank you very much) out of the box in any system, even if it's a quad-boot (98, NT, Unix, 2000), SCSI networked box on an i820 (Abit) chipset board with V2 SLI and a SBLive! If it doesn't we're fools for calling it a good card, or calling Matrox a good company. If they were a good company, the card would work, dammit!! What's that fairy in the tech demo good for, then?[*]If the G400 is slower than the GEForce, or the TNT2 Ultra, we must be taking kickbacks if we say nice things about the card... obviously no one could find any reason to like it....who remembers this quote from back in July?:

Is that supposed to be the function of the MURC? Taking a "tough love" attitude towards Matrox and it's products in order to force a "lazy" company to stand up and act "right"?

... the hardware company itself was very hot headed by insisting that their hardware is not bad. Not only that, they forced me to use my video card at AGP 1x when its supposed to run at AGP 2x. I think on the box and the advertisements it said that it supported AGP 4x. I know that it might not slow down games/apps today, what about the games/apps of tomorrow? I bought the card knowing that there is the option of running the card at AGP 4x and now they tell me the card can only run at 2x. I can't even run at 2x. What the hell is going on here? Why must people not realize the facts and stick with a wronged cause? I'm sure that Matrox has pumped out good quality cards, but you do have to remember that there is competition. I have to agree with filmgeek on most of the things that he said, and am totally on his side. If Matrox ever came out with a super slow card with superb picture quality and Company x came out with a super fast card with okay picture quality which card are you going to get? Picture quality don't mean jack when you're watching a slide show. As for the drivers, I don't really care about them. They at least have to make the hardware itself work. Ever since I bought my G400, I got nothing but trouble. It may be only me, but I've seen many others who are having the same problems as me and are as frustrated as me. I also think that it was a bad move for a Manager tech from Matrox to tell me off like that after knowing that I work for a computer store and that I adivise people what hardware to get. One thing's for sure: there won't be any Matrox cards going into systems that I build. [snip]Would I want to stick with a company that has given me a bad card and poor service? Essentially, the "we've made a terrible, terrible mistake, you bastards!" position...and wouldn't the MURC just be a ball to hang around at, then??? But maybe we're not supposed to be "hanging around" here at all....

I know I'm biased, liking the MURC-itude the way it is... but are these somehow, in some alternate universe which I fortunately do not inhabit, reasonable attitudes? Do people really expect to come here and find sympathy for "Why did I ever buy this POS card?" or "C'mon.... I'm being nicer than he is... pleeeeeease do what I want, so I don't have to be mean too..."?

I personally shudder to imagine the environment that would result from either of these attitudes gaining ascendancy, and I am slightly nauseated at the concept of members who would find such an environment comfortable-- even preferable-- to the one that currently exists here.

What the hell do people think we're supposed to be doing....??? If we all just sat here bitching, we could never help anyone... but then, if everyone was helped, there'd be no reason to bitch (would there?) and that I guess would be bad, since then people might not see Matrox for the fat, lazy, greedy bastards they really are....? If we all sat here whining, well, that would make us dependent pawns to Matrox's will to accede to our guilt-trip... If Ant won't sell the MURC out to Matrox, I don't see why we should be giving up a lot of our personal power to find solutions and participate in the improvement of our investment...

Yes, well it's a long post, but this is the Soap Box (and I'm on mine) , and I really want to know: why do such people devalue what we do here, and the way that we do it? I really cannot see how we could successfully assist people if we held any other attitude but "you have made a wise buying decision, you just have a small problem that we can (fairly) easily help you fix."

Am I wrong? Please don't blow me off saying that these people are "stupid"... that may be true, but they're real users and I'm trying to understand why some people not only do not connect with the MURC, but are actively "rubbed the wrong way" by it.
