That's what makes The Register so fantastic! They have the guts to publish rumours all the time... if the article gets disproven, then it'll be taken down and they'll let you know.

The problem is that if you publish rumours all the time, people can't take you seriously anymore.

And you can't call yourself a "news" source.

Sensationalism sells, but it also gets you a bad reputation. Like a certain famous New York City newspaper, which is now widely regarded as a worthless rag due to its flagrant sensationalising and rumour-mongering.
