I personally recommend any movie with Christopher Lambert in it. Some are excellent (Highlander) some are interesting (Knight Moves), and some are just poor (Mortal Kombat). But all are fun.

I would say the Big Lebowski is known fairly well on this side of the pond. I remember quite a stir among people when it first came out, everybody was telling everybody they've gotta see it. At least this occurred among the people I knew at the time.

I thought it was, well, interesting. Rather amusing as well, for varying reasons at varying points throughout the film. Been a number of years since I've seen it, though, so my memory of it isn't exactly fresh.
