Book the tickets, I went to the midnight screening at greater union in Adelaide, packed but the costumes and atmosphere were fantastic

Fantastic film!
I have a few niggles though...

a) Frodo's magical disseapering neck
b) Anduril
c) Nasty Galadriel
d) "The blade's still Sharpe"

Can't wait to see it again!

Seen it on the premiere day (night), which means i saw it first, because its 6 hours earlier here, hehe.

i like the costumes of some of the other watchers. the atmosphere was really good, noone seemed disappointed. i bought the tickets end of november, one day after they started selling them, and i only got places in the first row, which was a little disappointing, but the movie was great.

i hope they will put some of the scenes they cut out on the dvd version.

go and see it as often as you can, so it will be more succesful than titanic and harry potter

Niggles? Well, I was surprised at Ian McKellen.. he was almost absolutely perfect as Gandalf. Viggo Mortensen, Sean Bean, Cate Blanchett and Sean Astin were perfectly cast. The guys playing Merry and Pippin were even just about perfect. The only things I didn't like were the liberties taken with Elrond and his daughter Arwen. I don't remember Elrond being around 3000 years earlier at the time of Isildur. And in the book Arwen certainly never saved Frodo as she did in the movie. I agree with the quibble sites that that was a major blow to the development of Frodo's strength as a character. And why the hell did Elijah Wood need a nosejob? It was very distracting to look at his face and then try and imagine him in these old times of innocence.

All and all, I loved the movie though.

3 hours? A pittance....you should have been there for Lawrence of Arabia. It ran for 3 hours 41 minutes in its original release and over 4 hours in the re-release

Yes, it is described in the Silmarillion. Actually there were Elrond and Cirdan (both had one of the three remaining rings made by the Elbs - Galadriel was the owner of the third remaining elb ring), who urged Isildur to throw the ring into the Orodruin.

Yes, Elrond is that old. You can find out more in the LotR appendix.

One thing that I wish they had fixed was that the elves were using saddles! I know that the actors might not have been able to ride bareback (bareback I can do, but not without reins), but with all the CG in this movie, they could have removed the saddles. It's one of the many little things that make elves seem unearthly, and they seemed too Man-like in the movie.

Ahh... She just seemed so much warmer in the book, at least as they departed.

Recently one of my friends, a computer wizard, paid me a visit. As we were talking I mentioned that I had recently installed Windows XP on my PC. I told him how happy I was with this operating system and showed him the Windows XP CD. To my surprise he threw it into my microwave oven and turned it on. Instantly I got very upset, because the CD had become precious to me, but he said: 'Do not worry, it is unharmed.' After a few minutes he took the CD out, gave it to me and said: 'Take a close look at it.' To my surprise the CD was quite cold to hold and it seemed to be heavier than before. At first I could not see anything, but on the inner edge of the central hole I saw an inscription, an inscription finer than anything I had ever seen before. The inscription shone piercingly bright, and yet remote, as if out of a great depth:

what i liked about the movie were all the little details (legolas walking on the snow, aragorn wearing his ring, them having their elfish cloaks in the end, bilbo's home etc.)

also there seem to be 40 (!!) more minutes of the movie they cut out for the cinema, i hope they will put them on the DVD's and show them for the LOTR nights which will surley pop up before the 2nd and 3rd part.
