My next Bike will be locked inside my Storage locker!
a plus is that you can't see inside, so a potential thief won't know if its worth breaking in.

I lived on Amager, outside of Copenhagen, Denmark for a while. I made the mistake of leaving my bike outside during the evening, locked up to the bike rack. When I got back my brakes, shifters and cables were all gone. The derailers were on the ground and the chain had been attempted to be broken so they could take those too, but they couldn't find the right link in time. Cost $600 to replace all the parts.

Sadly, it has been locked up in my fathers garage untill december last year, so I never came around registring it.

When I was a kid on my parents farm I used to store my bike tied to the dog house.

We had a 150 lb German Shepard named Roxy that took very poorly to strangers

Note: her daughter in foreground weighed about 90-100 lbs.

Between the dogs and our 12g shotguns we didn't have much of a problem with thievery down on the farm

I think I would take a more interesting approach though

Leave the bike unchained..

Get a reasonably large (1/4 farad would do) capacitor and mount it inside the cross bar there. Run a 2 conductor wire into the seat. Solder the ends to two copper buttons installed in the seat, strategically placed.

Unless you turn it off with a key, a relay trips and the unfortunate thief completes the circuit after the bike has traveled about 100 meters (standard odometer would work here)

Hopefully you can find your bike before the body is discovered.

f&^(kin a&&^(les eh? And that was a nice bike! You coulda got alot of way cool upgrades for your computer with the cash you had to shell out for that mean machine! Hope ya get it back.

Course, if ya get an ugly bike, (Like mine, 15 years old from Sears) no one will steal it

I hope to hold on to my current bike for a long time. I got a great deal on it, and I don't like the less-durable anodized paint jobs that new frames have. I don't care about a few oz.

Yes!

It goes along with my home insurence...

But there is a 100$ penalty... (Rather mouch on a 299,5$ bike)

I'l try to get for all the extra equipment that I also bought that was also stolen (well it was al screwed to the bike so how could he have missed it)

Hopefully I'l get enough to buy a new bike...

The original idea behind a insurance company is fine, but nowdays they have to many clausules and penaltys and not to mention downwritings...
