It was a rather flat England performance, although Nigeria were marking Owen and Heskey very close and getting men behind the ball when they lost it.

I thought Ferdinand was superb (again), Mills was good, Sinclair was good again out on the left and Scholes is starting to get his form back.
Beckham looks rusty though, and I think he's having trouble with the lighter ball, which seems to be catching a lot of players out with its extra bounciness, but Beckham and his free kicks in particular.

I think Beckham just coming back to fitness he seemed to be making more runs than he has. I though Cole allowed himself to sucked into the middle too much luckily Nigera didn't exploit this.
Still we're a young side and I'll be happy if we win the world cup playing poorly.

Well lets face it, England have come into this world cup with most of their Midfield either injured and out or recovering from injury.
Gerrard and Murphy out, Beckham, Butt and Dyer recovering from injuries.
I was worried about the loss of Gary Neville at right back, as him and Beckham crossing over on the right flank are an important part of our attacking strategy, but Danny Mills has filled in excellently. He hasnt even picked up a yellow card yet!

It's good to see Rio getting praise in place of Beckham, as IMHO, Rio deserves it a helluva lot more. Although he did show an amateur piece of play, overshadowed by his excellent anticipation a few times.
