Anyone remember the name of a game, came out in '83, used vector-graphics to render a fighter-bomber flying through a two-dimensional maze? Definitely wasn't Zaxxon.

            Could it perhaps be NetWars?

I seem to recall a game system called Vectrex that was based on vector graphics. I think Vangaurd may be what he is thinking of. It definitely fits the timeframe.

Never had one myself, so I was always willing to visit friends who did.

Vanguard is close but not it. In this game the plane and the maze were displayed in profile, not from above, behind, inside, or at an angle as is usually the case.

                      EDIT: Damn, Wombat was faster.

Vanguard is a side-view profile game. So is Defender. Both arcade versions are not vector-based, however.

Vector-based games were always few and far between. They're easy as hell to spot because the thumbnails generated in MAME look like the night sky through colored filters. The games in my MAME dir that are vector-based are:
                        Asteroids
                        Star Trek
                        Star Wars
                        Empire Strikes Back
                        Tempest
