I don't understand why this is not illegal. It's a whole different thing to grow an organ that's cloned than to actually clone a whole person.

There are bound to be more efficient ways to create new organs for transplant. I'm betting that within a decade or two they'll be able to grow a replacement heart right in the patient's chest.
Ever see "Parts: The Clonus Horror" starring Peter Graves? MST3K worked it over pretty good.

I think everything that can possibly be done to advance scientific knowledge should be done. It upsets me greatly that people are willing to slow or stop scientific movement because of moral issues. If a particular scientific movement bothers you, then don't support it, but don't move to stop it, that's fighting on the side of ignorance in my opinion.Comment

I must admit it would be interesting to see a successful human cloning. But I'm not convinced there is any valid medical reason to promote human cloning as a policy. As a reproductive technique it would be pure vanity to produce an offspring that was your exact genetic twin. Parents attempting to clone a deceased child have far more serious problems going on than a deceased child. Cloning a beloved pet? Probably marketable to crazy-rich folk who have nothing better to do with their money. Otherwise...
