Part of the reasons the SR-71 was so rarely attacked was:
*only a very few models of munitions could make it up that high
*even when they did get that high, the travel time was so large that chasing the SR-71 was nearly impossible with the limited fuel load

You had know where the blackbird <I>would be</I>, not where it was. Since they had plenty of evasive maneuvers and intentionally skewed flight paths, that was all very difficult.
