Let's check this first..... can't find it (yet?)
My opinions on Islam claims on Jeruzalem stand whetever the outcome of this however.
Umf
edit:I did find a number of references stating Jeruzalem is holy to Islam like http://www.palestine-info.co.uk/jeru...thestatus.htm. So methinks that your statement on this Doggie bear is inaccurate.
My opinions still stand however.
edit 2:But then, that site also says: "The Talmud states that all nations are cursed and condemned except the Jews, who are honourable and have the right to capture whatever the non-Jews have because they deserve to be murdered. As a result, how can such people be trusted to defend and protect the holy places and the human legacy (Surat Al-Baqarah, verse 61), and who has more right to do so, Muslims or Jews?"
I am pretty sure that the Talmud does not say that, could a Jew comment pls?Last edited by Umfriend; 15 November 2002, 09:18.Join MURCs Distributed Computing effort for Rosetta@Home and help fight Alzheimers, Cancer, Mad Cow disease and rising oil prices.

Let's see now. The Jewish religion has been around for at least 8,000 years if not longer, the Christian religion has been around for at least 2,000 years and the Islam religion has been around for 700years. Hmmmmm!!!!

actually Islam has been around about ~1300 years (632 AD)
http://campus.northpark.edu/history/WebChron/MiddleEast/Beliefs.html
But that is not really the point, using your argument Joel > since the native Americans predated the Colonialists, we should give back America to the Indians.
It's much more complex that "who was here first", imho.

Not to mention the other extreme. 8,000 years? What part of your ass did you pull that number from?Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

My bad there. I was thinking the 700th century when I wrote that and ended up putting down 700 years. The Jewish religion per say goes all the back to at least the time of Abraham. And could actually be viewed as going all the way back to Adam and Eve. Either way it has been around longer than any of the others which brings up the question of religous claims.actually Islam has been around about ~1300 years (632 AD)

Wombat:
It's well-established that Noah (and yes they found the ark, so let's not get into quibbling) lived about 4000 B.C., and many of the archaeological finds that are mentioned in the Bible (Ur, for example) date to 4000 or 5000BC. I'd say Judaism is more like 6000 years old than 8000... but there you have it. It was the original monotheism.

Maybe I'm wrong here, since you mentioned it Gurm, but I do equate Judaism with Jewish. Is that wrong???

Abraham was the first Jew. 1741 BCE. That makes it ~ 3800 yrs old according to scholars.

Umm, if you believe in Adam and Eve, then <I>everybody</I> goes back that far.And could actually be viewed as going all the way back to Adam and Eve.
And no, as far as I've looked in to it, they certainly didn't find the ark, expecially if you're talking about the Durupinar(spelling fixed) site.
Judaism has no claim whatsoever as the "original" monotheism. It may be the oldest existing monotheistic religion, but the early Egyptians were monotheistic, as well as the Sumerians, and many other cultures scattered across the globe.Last edited by Wombat; 15 November 2002, 11:05.Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. The laws against Gentiles were, like with Christianity and Islam, against PAGANS.
Since Jewdaism was the first monotheistic religion in this part of the world, all the rest were the same to it. On the other hand, do a bit of deeper research about what jewdaism said about the non-jews living inside the Jewish community.

ok me toooooo depresed to answer..... (not depressed becuse of what is being said here) but i would like to give you my opinion on religion... they all say the same thing using difrent words and difrent means but esencialy all religions are one.... unfortunatly religous ppl just dont see it that way and try to claim the oposit.....
my opinion on what should be done with jerusalem is this.....
evict all citizens from both sides .. put it under the mandate of athiests and make it a site for pilgrims only......."They say that dreams are real only as long as they last. Couldn't you say the same thing about life?"

I like that. To celebrate, we will also erect statues of Beelzebub and Baal there
! Atheists coming and living there may enjoy the art of it.
