Maths joke

Right. All you mathmos out there should find this one funny.

Here is a fairly well-known maths problem to solve:

Code:

{ sin x }
Lim   { ----- }
n->inf {   n   }

I'll let a few of you have a go (be imaginative!).... before posting the answer given by a fellow student of a friend's brother recently - it had me in absolute stitches.

I'm hardly a maths monster, but doesn't it just tend to zero as n->inf? Or can x be complex? Would that make a difference?
Blah blah blah nick blah blah confusion, blah blah blah blah frog.

Well I'll give you a hint as to what this particular maths genius did:

Step 1: Cancel the "n"s top and bottom.

Yup. He put sin(x)/n = si(x) = 6. Which even stays as six as n approaches infinity. This was in all seriousness.

Pure genius. As I said (although maybe its just me), had me in stitches when I heard...

ok now that's some funny stuff.

In the math building of the university that I attended this summer there was a cow statue with all kinds of math equations and symbols. Behind the cow there is a pile of cow pi (s). well I thought it was amusing anyway...
