    You need bigger percentages. American middle-class gets smacked around pretty hard if you include FICA and state tax.

    I just netted 58% of my severence package, but I'm certainly not rich.
    Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

      Let's see now:
      Anyone in Canada making over 60,000 gets hit with 40% income tax tax.
      After you get your income tax deducted and you use your money to buy something you get hit with a 8% provincial and 7% federal goods and sevice tax. Tax on gasoline is roughly 40%.

      So in other words, if you add all the f'n taxes up you are well above the 40% mark.


      Being self employed, I do have some benefits, but I do believe we are one of the most taxed nations in the world.

          Only the tax that are drawn automaticaly from your pay!

                For the last 10+ years we've paid 0% plus we get ~$5,000 USD back every year due to various tax credits.

                  Well with all my deductions for tax/benfits/401K I'm getting 23% of my paycheck taken from me.

                      Ahh but don't forget Japan is user pays, on top of that i have to pay my health insurance, unemployment insurance, state taxes etc etc. so in reality it works out closer to about 23%
