I wouldn't wait for a card that isn't even really announced, that you have no official spec for...still vaporware as far as i'm concerned.
I think you could go for the Radeon, its a good alternative (that's what I did ). you can get some cheap 64 meg DDR oem and overclock it pass the retail one clock speed (depends on memory you get).

I'm hoping for an announcement at E3 too, but just to be sure I think you should all buy Radeons.

Then again will Matrox still release the card when they find out they only have one customer left for it?

The conference starts at May 16th and the exposition at May 17th. So I suppose you should wait until then and don't buy any other card in the next two weeks...

Go ahead and buy a new card even if M does announce something in E3. You probably won´t be able to buy it anyway until fall.

How should they announce something when they're not even there? Check the exhibitors list for E3 (link above).

Besides the same was said for GDC and Cebit (nothing happened), after E3 those same people will tell you: just wait a few further weeks, the *insert some expo-name here* is near and probably Matrox will announce something there.
Then, for sure others will stray in saying something in the line of "If you only knew what we know..." Just do a search for those G800-speculations over the last year - you'll see always the same "knowing" comments again and again but still nothing happened.

So if your G400 is not anymore up to the job, get a new card based on what's available - you can always return if/when Matrox has a killer product.
And if your G400 is up to the task, then why bother at all?
