I vote for 3...none of the above! They're going to release a video card at GeForce 2 Ultra speeds for the workstation segment to compete with the Quatra ... or whatever nVidia calls that POS. We gamers will never see another Matrox card in our computers again.

dual head Professional CAD/workstation card...serious power serious price. (with a memory technolgy that is impossible to pronouce)

It will be Next generation card that should be good enough to for a 3 year or so production series.

and forget a marvel/eTV model... you can use matrox's new OEM RT2550 for video capture. the 50 on the model number denotes it is slower than the original(as per g450 naming convention )

later on for us mortals a slower variant only using 666mhz ddr ram...

Why are some people panicking here? I'm sure Matrox will come out with a new graphics core. They have to, otherwise Matrox Graphics will die.

Do not confuse the next gen cards with the G450 MMS or whatever it will be named, I already did that. But as VigilAnt responded, the G450 MMS will have many G450 processors to support multiple monitors, but the processors will only be dedicated to running their own heads - they will not increase the card's overall processing power. 3D on a G450 MMS will run just as slow as on a G450, maybe even slower, if at all. If you still don't get what it is about, read about nVidias new Quadro4 NVS.

Yes, Matrox will hopefully move a little more into the high end, but high-end does not always mean gaming. High end in the real sense of the word means expensive, powerful and professional 3D graphics solutions. This is good, because this world revolves mostly around OpenGl, and so far that has not been a very strong point for Matrox Graphics. IMHO they overlooked the importance of OpenGl until it was too late and costly to do it well with the old core.

But with a new core, they can design their adapters for OpenGl from the ground up. And as you know, a powerful graphics core (such as nVidias GeForce series) can be adapted to both professional and consumer markets. In fact, most of the GeForces can be changed to Quadros with very little modding - the real value of the Quadro comes with the driver package and support.
Some have heard rumors about a new card with gigantic bandwidth but dismissed the idea by concluding that a 256 bit DDR bus would be far too expensive for the consumer market. That's right, now read the four last words of that sentence again. Duh. I can not promise anyone that we will see a gaming card from Matrox, all I know is that with a fresh, powerful and well designed core, it should not be too much of a problem to adapt it to lower end solutions.

I guess it's the right time to release a G450 MMS because the Quadro 4 NVS sounds like good competition.

Seems NVidia wants to target to whole graphics area from the little consumer to the professional that needs a good graphics card with execllent opengl support.

Matrox has to make a move you can't survive on old technology.

Matrox will have to move soon or it will definately be in trouble. If they don't move, they will become another Trident (shudder)

Also, the only reason why OpenGL on the G400/G450/G550 suck is because matrox didn't put the considerable effort into the OpenGL drivers that was needed.

Very good point. One would assume that if they did indeed have a rather spankingly good next gen card coming up soon, and they were to aim it at a high end market then professional, solid, fast, OpenGL drivers would have been a top priority and would have been taken care off by professionals. Theoretically speaking of course.

lets just thyink about this and say that matrox do have a high end 3d card almost complete.surely if they already have a highly capable and advanced professional 3d core then in order to make more money out of the core whch they have they will release a lower performance gamer oriented card around the same core architecture. this way they get revenue from the professional sales and also from gamer sales and all can be generated from the research and developement of a single chip.isnt the quadro 4 based on the geforce 4?
