And what exactly is everyone getting excited over? A hardware demonstration behind closed doors ? As far back as I can rememeber , Matrox has never released a card in March (well I only go back to G100 days so their Millenium/Marvel series cards might have been released in March but somehow I doubt it.)Comment

The biggest reason people are excited about GDC is Ant's little post.
Basically, last year Matrox showed of displacment mapping at GDC @ ~2 fps on an 'unnamed' piece of hardware, which later became the G550. This year, Matrox is putting on another GDC presentation about displacment mapping on the last day of GDC (Saturday). The rumor is that Matrox will show off displacment mapping on another 'unnamed' piece of hardware, but this time at high frame rates. The 'unnamed' hardware is rumored to be the famed Parhelia.
So...if this rumor turns out to be truth...then MURCers will finally have something to cheer about again! Today is Wednesday @ GDC and Matrox won't demo displacment mapping until Saturday. Until that time only a select few know whether it's true or not, but they are all under NDA, so they ain't talking.
