    Will Matrox buy?

Rumour has it that ST is involved in negotiations with a potential buyer of their graphics (Kyro) business, with support from ImageTech. Obviously the aqusition will include licenses for the Kyro´s III, IV, and V.

Any chance the secret buyer is Matrox?
Could make some sense, couldn´t it?

Nah, I don't think so. Matrox doesn't have the $$$$
    Prolly NVidia, maybe VIA

afaik only the stg4xxx(kyro1/kyro2/kryo2 ultra), stg5500(kyro3) and the stg6000(kyro4?) is part of the deal and not the kyro5, if such a thing exist.
This sig is a shameless atempt to make my post look bigger.

I would say VIA would be the best guess. nVidiot has the SEC after them and they probably don't care for the Kyro technology. VIA would be a logical choice since they could use the core to integrate into their motherboards to compete with nVidiot's mobo chipset.

Via already has the "Zoetrope" graphics core, it´s on their chipsets roadmap.

remember that buying the graphics devision of STM will only give you a licence to produce PowerVR series 3, 4 and 5... the license doesn't permit you to use the IP for own use.

That's why Matrox, ATI and nVidia probably don't have any interest in buying STM.

Maybe Hercules will buy it, though even that option doesn't seem very likely... VIA could be a potential candidate indeed
