I think the Parhelia has so much potential, if they would go to 0.13µ or even 0.09µ, they could increase the clock speed, they could also fix the core itself (banding and FAA issues) and release it.
In other ways I can understand their decission, today it seems like most people are only looking on benchmark results, especially the reviewers. This killed 3dfx almost two years ago. If you go back and read the V5 5500 reviews, you'll notice that it was always bashed because of being slower than a GeForce 256 and no T&L unit. I see the Parhelia in a similar situation today...

That would be a wrong choice.

On the other hand, they could make their own boards and also have other companies produce other boards with the chips.


But they cannot stop making boards, because the board is very important to image quality. Having a 400MHz RAMDAC is no use if the eletronics on board are of poor quality.

I'm sure that many of the Matrox customers buy Matrox because they are sure of the quality of the board's electronics.

Speaking of wich, they don't produce their own PCB. They have some companies doing it for them. Haig said that they only had a small production unit only for the prototype and if needs arise (just like when they released G400Max).
