nope, pound sign is definetely different: £

edit: arghhh...now I see what's going on - it's the fault of popular fonts used in browsers.
Anyway, the letter above looks EXACTLY (basically...it is ) like capital of one of polish specyfic letters (which looks very familiar to pound sign I must admit, but not identical - pound sign has "handwriting" style compared to the "£"; I wonder why it hasn't this style in IE - it has it in sign table in XP)

edit2: I have an idea how you can see what I'm talking about. In sign table in XP you can clearly see it...
compare the look of pound sign (U+00A3) and U+0141
