I think the characters would remain the same with different actors playing the parts, The cameos are probably the directors/script writers way to honour the original cast. Lets hope the chemistry between the actors are not lost.

Mel Gibson would be good for Hannibal or u can try the other australian Hugh Jackman. Both Brad Pitt and Owen Wilson would look okay for both Face or Mad Murdoch.
